Hanging Man 10

Final Poem Of the Hanging Man Series HANGING MAN 10 I do not know the hands that released me from the night; I only know that I am born with the taste of clay in my mouth. Pain makes me breathe in; life makes me breathe out. My fingers flex like the wrinkled petals of some exotic flower. My arms and legs flail like discordant notes until they discover the simple tune of crawling. I stumble swallowing into the clear spring, moan at the soothing agony of cold water. My body stands unsteadily. I… Continue

Hanging Man 9

HANGING MAN 9 Invisible prophets, pursued by darkness, rush through the treetops. Silence, stillness. Morning light races back to the shelter of the horizon. Lightning, thunder. My lips purse like an infant’s to suckle the sky; my tongue laps at the ecstasy of raindrops. Jagged light carves a new world each second; explosions signal their destruction. Grain by grain my foundation dissolves to liquid. I am left suspended within a choked breath. I can do no more; death no longer frightens m… Continue

Hanging Man 8

HANGING MAN 8 A great blue heron slices across the sinking moon like a fossil bird with leather wings, stalks the edges of the spring, casually pecks at all moving things smaller than itself. With high, cautious steps it wanders toward me, is startled when it realizes I am neither fruit nor root of the tree. Like an old man with slicked hair standing out from the back of his head, he ponders the uniqueness of this thing. I am the marvel he awakened for this morning. Yellow eyes rise to mine; h… Continue

Hanging Man 7

HANGING MAN 7 The full moon is the axis, the sky the wheel, earth the mill, life the water leaping the spillway tossing gifts of diamonds to the unseen sun. I hear the music of liquid, singing a language I suddenly understand. Mysterious syllables bubble through my veins; I am the sound I hear. I am a trout plucked out from my green dream by the revolving wheel. My world spins away from all direction, neither up nor down. I will myself to dive, feel my fins spread like wings; I drift into the… Continue

Hanging Man 6

HANGING MAN 6 I dream I am awake at the beginning of time; mine are the first eyes to see the moon rise. It is like a goddess’ cupped hands pouring out her ivory light. My soul takes form in my dream, sprouts wings, tumbles and whirls through the air, sings with the voice of predator and prey. I am a fox barking my aloneness, a squirrel chattering at my enemies, a mockingbird singing endless tunes to life, a snake hissing my singleness of purpose, a mouse squeaking out my protest of death. I a… Continue

David,
Thank you for appreciating my poem. I think all poets share the ability to weep and laugh at the world, to be almost speechless at the violence, but also to contemplate the stillness and later make it speak in his words. Like Li Po and Tu Fu being separated by miles and unsure whether they would see each other again, but also "drinking alone with the moon," dancing with one's shadow, and toasting each other even in separation, or Wang Wei always alone with "just echoes of the voice of men." My father's war (in the Pacific) was a generation back but violence continues to be done to our generation, with our without bombs. Poets like you (and me) must speak because we, to paraphrase Auden, are always driven by the world into poetry.

Ah, I know your impatience with dial-up, it was only recently broadband became more available here in my own country. But your blog is richer--I must come back to read some more.

Cheers!

David,
Thanks so much for the congrats on "Spotlight Artist" You know Mr. A, He goes his own way: I would have decline had he asked (at least to wait until my CD is for sale & Out there) Hey, I'm going to message you on "connection problems" I completely understand. I have dial-up modem too and I also live in a remote area (the middle of the Ocala National Forest in Florida) so I have various connect problems which lately I think is due to my line outside. I'll write you on this, you may be able to call the phone co. and get it looked at.
I love your concise pithy style of poetry. Someday, when I'm truely retired I hope to visit the Ga. mountains for Fly Fishing for Trout.
Is your latest stuff to be in a new book that might journalize your retirement in Summerhill (was it?) I'd love to puruse it. Like your latest poems much.

best luck with the computer, michael guy

Congratulations on your poet of the year award! You sure have a well defined original style - and consistently delivers. "Soldier on the Wall" is excellent. Your poetry is aged like Fine Wine but your look kinda young for a Retired Guy! How'd you do it?

Hi David,

Happy New Year! Congratulations on being selected Poet of the Year 2007 at The Writing Forum. The Hanging Man Dreams is a powerful mind-adjuster. Perhaps revelations of the immortality of Dreamers. This is literary material like the stuff out of the Popol Vuh, the ancient Maya Book of Counsel. The Hanging Man Dreams synopsis appears to fill in gaps in the continuum of the human experience. All good things to us in the New Year 2008...

Warmly,
Sage

I enjoyed reading your incredibly well crafted poems today and will certainly check out "Hanging Man..." at AD sometime. You are another Southern American poet of substance and must have spent years creating such a style and voice. And if you like Jazz, blues please see some of my orignal instrumental music on my Music Player here at CTI -- nice to meet you....

The fortunate visitor to Robert’s profile page gains entry into a world of eclectic musical compositions ranging from classical European melodies and Indian ragas to jazz, rock, and blues. We could go on quite a bit about his tailored background images, video choices, and the fact that he has established several groups at CTI. But rather than doing that, we invite you to explore for yourself his created wonders at http://creativethinkersintl.ning.com/profile/RobertM

CTI Spotlight Artist Poetry Life & Times April 16-30, 2008

Our friends at Poetry Life and Times have featured a number of CTI’s members in their e-zine and, on top of that, have now been one of the great champions of modern poetry for some ten years. They actually have the archives to prove it! Their current issue not only honors one of poetry’s nobler traditions with its dedication to our very challenged "brothers and sisters in Tibet, Burma and Darfur,” but remains true to its mission by providing a platform for some of the most vibrant contemporary poetic voices on the planet. It is truly our honor at CTI to present Poetry Life and Times as our Spotlight Artist for April 16-30, 2008. The image of the monk featured as their main page profile image is borrowed from their current issue. CTI Spotlight Artist Luther E. Vann April 1-15, 2008

(photo of Luther E. Vann by John Schmidt) Often described as a poet who utilizes visual art to write his poems, Luther E. Vann is an acclaimed artist who was fortunate enough to receive some of his first art instructions from recognized masters of the Harlem Renaissance. Like all artists of note, he shaped what he learned into a style of his own that fuses deeply spiritual imagery, metaphysical philosophy, and strong social realism. After a lifetime of dedication to his craft, his work will go on exhibit at the Telfair Museum in Savannah, Georgia, from April 16-August 17, 2008, and his first book, ELEMENTAL, The Power of Illuminated Love, is scheduled for publication in May. We’re honored for the opportunity to present Vann as the CTI Spotlight Artist for April 1-15 and invite you to visit his profile to learn more about him at http://creativethinkersintl.ning.com/profile/Weallare111 Your Friendly CTI Admin Support Team

CTI Spotlight on Daughters of Destiny March 16-31, 2008

Miriam K. Center, Founder of MKC Daughters of Destiny (photo by John Zeuli) As most of you know, March is Women’s History Month on our side of the world. Considering that women make up slightly more than half the planet’s population, it seemed appropriate to step outside the box of our normal way of thinking when it comes to the bi-weekly Spotlight Artist for March 16-31, 2008, and this time acknowledge the work of MKC Daughters of Destiny. While there are a number of Daughters of Destiny organizations around the globe, it just so happens that Miriam K. Center is one of our very own members whose creativity includes her leadership within the organization, her work as a poet, journalist, and author of a somewhat notorious novel. We are honored to invite you to learn more about Daughters of Destiny and Ms. Center at: http://creativethinkersintl.ning.com/profile/ADaughterofDestiny

CTI Spotlight Artist Cheryl Kaye Tardif March 1-15, 2008

We are honored to present Ms. Tardif as the CTI Spotlight Artist for March 1-15, 2008, and invite you learn more about this gifted Canadian author at http://creativethinkersintl.ning.com/profile/CherylKayeTardif .
